MEET JENN

Jenn began working with Learner Centered Training in 2023, beginning with her own dog, Chloe. Since then, Jenn has supported both guardians and professionals in learning and implementing B.A.A.R.C.™.

Jenn’s journey into training and behavior began in 2022, when she adopted Chloe, who turned out to have some reactive behaviors. Despite having been a lifelong dog guardian and yet never previously having worked with a trainer, Jenn was in a trainer’s office just two weeks after getting Chloe!

Jenn’s first trainer fostered her growing interest in (okay, obsession with) dog training, and Jenn quickly began a deep dive into webinars, courses, books, YouTube videos, blogs, and even joined TikTok (only to watch! …at first).

As Jenn worked with Chloe on her reactivity and other issues, they had some initial success using those traditional R+ methods. Then, like so many, they hit a plateau and progress seemed to halt. Jenn consulted with new trainers, only to be told they had nothing else to offer and it was just a matter of putting in the time. When Jenn stumbled upon B.A.A.R.C.™, she was immediately enthralled with the overlap between her new passion - dog training - and her long-standing passion for learning theory and learner-centered education.

Jenn took a self-paced B.A.A.R.C.™ course on loose leash walks for reactive dogs. She watched as Chloe, newly empowered with gestural communication, immediately grew leaps and bounds in her tolerance for triggers and even generated her own management (or coping) strategies! Jenn had started to post on TikTok by that point, and soon found particular value and enjoyment in sharing information about the learning theory and behavior science behind B.A.A.R.C.™. That enjoyment extended to the conversations Jenn and Sara were having together and with members of the larger R+ community, including through a course they were co-teaching on some of the concepts within B.A.A.R.C.™. It became clear that there needed to be a space where people could learn about B.A.A.R.C.™, and Jenn made the decision to leave her 20-year career in higher education to pursue Learner Centered Training.

Jenn has worked directly with dog guardians, has coached professionals through learning and applying the framework, and is deeply committed to sharing the joy and wonder of the learner centered approach with anyone who wants to learn!
